Japanese Lantern Slides

"In the 1930s, Kokusai Bunka Shinkokai (a predecessor of the present Japan Foundation) actively created lantern slides and distributed them to institutions around the world to help educate about Japan." Here are a few of my favorite slides...

Heaven

Hell

Sanitation Campaign

Scary Kite

Domestic Dispute

Stories

War Stories

Utterly amazing images. "To help educate about Japan" -- and to scare the pants off of children to boot!

Wow, really it's Your blog that's incredible!! Seriously amazing, amazing images. I'm so glad stuff like this is scanned & shared, otherwise it'd be lost! It's like uncovering strange treasures each with each post.

Also a funny thing: just noticed you had another blog when I clicked on your profile, and looks like you posted about Tadanori Yokoo as well - I'd just finished putting up some of his images today! So great.

Anyway, thanks again for the wonderful posts!!
